The Story
Six rock bands from all across Europe are on a tour to promote world peace when they’re left stranded in America with no maps, no money, and no cell phones after the tour manager quits and cancels the tour.
“Rockin’ America” is the inspirational story of twenty-six musicians, most of them under the age of twenty, from different countries with different customs, but who all share a common desire: to play rock n’ roll music.
Lured to America with the promise of fame & fortune, the bands arrive in America with hopes and dreams, but find themselves living a nightmare.
Fourteen bands kick off the tour at Yasgur’s Farm, the site of the original Woodstock, with their final performance scheduled in Miami. The tour quickly falls apart, as some bands never show, and others either quit or get fired by the tour manager. The tour manager, who found the bands on MySpace, is an old hippie of questionable character.
With no clue as to where they are, much less how to get home, six of the fourteen bands join forces, reschedule the tour, and set out to rock America on their own. Traveling with this musical troupe on their Magical Misery Tour are a seven-year-old boy, a five-month-old baby, and several underage musicians. The bands learn to care for themselves and each other as they drive back roads, eat fast food, and sleep in cheap motels.
Constant setbacks and obstacles threaten to end the tour every mile of the way, but the bands find the inspiration to continue after visits to CBGB’s, The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and Graceland, the Memphis home of Elvis Presley.
